societies. The society has over 60 rules, guides, standards and other criteria for the
design and construction of marine vessels and structures for materials, equipment
and machinery. ABS determines classifications for the operational maintenance of
marine vessels and other marine structures.

DNV-Det Norske Veritas establishes rules and guidelines for the classification of
ships, mobile offshore platforms and other floating marine structures. The
guidelines are developed for corrosion protection of ships. DNV is authorized to
act on behalf of some 130 national maritime authorities.
